Wigan Athletic have confirmed Leighton Baines has joined Everton in a £5million deal.

The England Under 21 international full-back was given permission to talk to Everton manager David Moyes over the weekend and a deal has now been agreed.

Baines, who joined Wigan as a trainee, admits it was a tough decision to leave The JJB Stadium, but he is grateful for the time he spent at the club.

"I'd like to thank all the staff at Wigan," Baines told Wigan's official website.

"I've had six fantastic years here and it was a really tough decision to leave that behind because this is the club who have given me the opportunity to make it in the game.
I'm glad we wrapped this up and didnt have Newcastle hijacking another transfer of ours :)

Great signing, and it looks like theres more to come. Can't wait to see if Moysey could bring another striker and midfielder in it.

Possibly we need a new goalkeeper as Howards ace, but our 2nd one....bluddy Iain Turner, shall I say anymore appart from Manchester United.

I thought he had a decent game until 'that mistake' then his confidence went dead.
Baines will be a great signing, he's always done well in a poor Wigan team and had a few good games for England U-21s. He needs to be a better team than Wigan tbh.

Ye Agreed, thats why he needs to get a bit more confidence, loan him out to a decent side, as lets be honest Sheff Wed They aint playing any decent teams?

Yeah he's a quality left back all right. In one of his u21 games he was remarkably good.

Would be awesome if Moyes splashed out the cash on Manny Fernandes or on a decent striker
