Gilberto named new captain

Well hes been named new captain but we all knew he would anyway, Toure and gallas to share vice captain. Good to see toures name there.

So what do you part time gooners think then :animatedfear:

i have arsenal.com on RSS on firefox, so always abrest with the information, just don't always share it on here, so not a part time gooner. Anyway, think it's a good choice, although it will mean he will play a lot of games for us, so why do we need Diarra.

Think its a good choice, although Fabregas will eventually be named the new captain in a few years to come unless he moves before.

Kinda mixed feelings about this. When playing Gallas shows that he has the voice and drive to be captain, but he tends to be injured quite often (well that's my view from last season). I'm sure he will do better this season

i'm very surprised that william has been made captain i would of bet everything on it being Gilberto and there was a rumour a couple of weeks ago that they had offered Fabregas the vice-captaincy....but his time will come. although i still think that gallas would make a good captain but i'm worried he may not have the loyalty. i mean he has only been at the club for 12 months compared to gilberto's 5 years!

I think that was part of the reason Gallas is captain. Wenger want's him to stay and by making him captain it insures he wont leave this summer which i thought he may do. How long will he stay i'm not sure but i think it was a good decision. Gallas has experience and i think he has more wisdom than Gilberto though come next summer will see.

yeah i think it's a ploy to keep him at the club, he made viera captain then henry, to me they weren't classic captains, in the Tony Adams mould, so he seems to give it to high profile players, to gain loyalty. to be fair i don't see many vocal leaders in the team, just through the way they play

I wanted Toure to be the new captain because he has improved so much since he first made an appearance for Arsenal, Gilberto has a lot of experience and i think he will do well, Gilberto has been captain before and i'msure he'll be relaxed.

Interesting choice. I think defenders make excellent captains (Tony Adams, anyone? ;) ) but I would have thought Toure would get the nod due to seniority in the club.

Gallas was out most of last season injured and has only been with us for half a season, really. I hope it's a good move, but it's not one I can say I truly understand. Toure or Gilberto would have been my picks, personally.

I think Gallas will make a good captain. i don't go along with the wants him to stay thinking although it might keep him in line and away from the silly remarks to the press. i think its a good move as Gallas has got the experience and presence on the field that will lift our youngsters when needed.

Gallas is perfect for the job!! Maybe he was injured a lot but i think he would be a good captain.
