SADDLERS GRIEF AT TRAINING GROUND TRAGEDY | Walsall | News | As It Happens | As It Happens (http://www.saddlers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/0,,10428~1096239,00.html)

Awful news. Something needs to be done about this, it's not the first time it's happened, a player collapsing.

What do you propose doing?

It's a freak occurance. You can't screen every player in the world to see if they will collapse for whatever reason.

It's sad but it's just nature.

Yeah your right. But surely they can get some screening done for them. Just to see if they are at risk.

Nice idea.

Totally impossible to do in real life. I mean if this kid died in the same manner as Foe did then you're looking for the smallest of defects in the heart which leaves the player a ticking time bomb. It's just one of those things you have to accept that you have no control over.

the 'CRY' group do screening young people, it's not going to completely eradicate the situation but if it's made compulsory for all (young) sportsmen it wouldn't do any harm. If it saves one life its worth it.

Who picks up the cost though ?

The FA?

How far does the screening go? All levels of the game? Just pros?

Should be Funded at club level Shouldn't really cost that much should it? They only need to be tested once.

Players. It costs 30 quid. If your not going to force it at least encourage it more.

Is that it, £30. Seems very cheap to me.

Might have been 50, not 100% sure but relatively inexpensive as CRY is a non profit organisation.
Most clubs probably have about 50 players if you include youth and reserve, so 1500 is quite alot for your average league club, but to be honest if cost is the only reason then it should happen - maybe the premierleague can pay for it all with the huge amount of TV money they get lol

Okay.

Well you seem to know more about this organisation than me. Relatively inexpensive as well.

But would you want to know that you can't play football anymore due to a dodgy ticker?

I wouldn't.

Admittedly I'm not an expert in this field BUT if it's going to save my life then I would want to know. Obviously if a player decides to keep on playing they'd regret having the test but that's life.

The way I understand it is that anything can trigger it so even if you stop playing theres no guarentee it will or won't go.
