Take a look at this site if you're interested:

Football Referee (http://www.footballreferee.org/)

Here's the info on how to become a ref:

Become A Referee (http://www.footballreferee.org/become_referee.php)

Don't do it unless you can take stick, because you will get it!

(I reffed for 2 years, gave it up to go to Uni. It can be the best thing you do all week or totally wreck your weekend).

I know I couldn't ref, you have to be really alert and i'd end up missing things like fouls or dives. They have a hard job to do and the players and the crowds make it 10 times worse.

You're always going to make mistakes, the important thing is not to let it affect you.

Parents at junior matches are the worst. I was always happy to talk about things to parents who were fairly polite, but some were just scumbags who were obsessed with their kids' football results. Got some horrible abuse, and I was only 16 at the time myself (and looked it).

All character building I suppose :D

Whats worse in when they chuck coins at them :animatedfear:

Yeah there is no need for it, Refs are just doing a job that everyone else thinks they can do better. I would love to see the ref go upto some fat bloke whos always whinging at him and say, you do it, and see how **** he will be. May be slightly biased towards his team so it would never happen, but theoretically the proper ref would be 100 times better imo.

I've done that before at a youth game. Some fat bloke on the line whinging at me all game (usually you don't know the rooooooooools referee), so play his team were attacking (followed by another yell of f'ing hell referee you're rubbish). Hit the whistle and WALKED towards him. Took my lanyard off my wrist, gave him the whistle and said "you're reffing". He gave it back and said not another word.

What people should realise is the less pressure we're under, the better in general we will be. It's more difficult to referee in a game where every player is yelling at you than if they're getting on with doing what they're there to do.

Hopefully the FA will make that rule that there testing at the moment in the lowe league where only the captain can talk to the ref. It would speed the game up no end and if other players start speaking to the ref they should instantly get a yellow. Discipline needs to be ploughed into the game. Would be great to see the players respect the ref like they do in rugy, but I don't think the football players have the brain cells to do it.

I think they take too much rubbish off players before they do anything!! be a bit harsh with them. Why don't rugby players and fans go on at the refs,l they have more respect!!

Rugby is a prime example, The players no that the ref is in charge, and won't mess with him. If they do...thats 10mins off mate.

Trouble with Park football...is that every sodding player thinks they can play in the fuckin premiership. Well guess what...there not lol. As a ref, I make it crystal clear that I'll allow abit of foul language, i.e. frustration...but the first instance someone directs it at me, another player or spectator, then there will be disciplinary action.

Just need to let em know whos refereeing the game.

Yes definitely, hopefully the FA will bring in the trial so only the captains can speak to the ref. Its horrible when teams surround the referee, Manchester United when through a bad spell doing that a lot during the season.

Yeah it really does not look good for the club and can be very intimating for the referre (and/or officals).

Being a ref in my country...the system is very different to that of England whereas the kinds of abuse that are directed at referees over there appalls me. I think Graham Poll immediately comes to mind who IMO is being sorely missed looking at the kinds of decisions ref's are making nowadays. I think we referees need to be given a lot of credit for the kind of job we do as apart from a full time job we also have to do this which most of us consider as 'fun' or as just our way of helping with the beautiful game and to come out on a sunny Saturday afternoon and have players and managers swearing at you...?? I think they are better ways to spend a Saturday afternoon no??

As a player who is not a captain i would hate that rule. I rarely give the ref any kind of abuse but sometimes it is good to be able to ask why he gave a decision or not.
On another note, the best ref i have had ref a game i was playing in was ex notts county manager ian richardson who played the advantage rule well and controlled the game. Missed a blatant foul on me by their striker when they scored the winner though.

Good player Richardson:thumbup1:

I pretty much dont talk to the ref the whole game, unless Im asking how long is left.
