Ian "Charlie" McParland (b. 4 October 1961, Edinburgh, Scotland) was a former Notts County striker who has recently made the step up into management when he became joint caretaker manager with Frank Barlow at Nottingham Forest. After a new boss, Colin Calderwood was put in place, McParland and Barlow became coaches with the club

McParland eventually went to Nottingham Forest as a coach. He has been with Forest for over 10 years and was the reserve team coach for most of that time. When Gary Megson left 'by mutual consent' in February 2006, he was put in temporary charge with Frank Barlow in a joint first team management role.

He and Barlow were named Managers of the Month for March 2006, when they went 10 games unbeaten, with 6 straight wins. McParland just missed out on equalling a club record of 7 straight wins when Forest fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Hartlepool United. Despite Forest narrowly missing out on the League One playoffs, McParland was still the favourite to land the Forest job (with Barlow) on a permanent basis. He equalled a few records as the caretaker manager. After Colin Calderwood was named the permanent successor to Megson, McParland and Barlow became coaches for the Forest first team.

Its a risk, but you have to take risks at this level.

How would the hard core at County take to him?

Was he popular in his time there?

How would his obvious Forest link affect his relationship with the fans?

Probably very well, he's a fan favourite from the past. The Majority want him, some undecided and some against him. No doubt on match day he will be welcomed with open arms.

No his Forest link won't affect that at all. We've got quite a few Forest over here now, Jason Lee, Weir-Daley, is all part of the parcel.

Just read up about him, seemed to have done well at Forest. Sounds like a good coach, if he can integrate his coaching skills and man management skills, this could be the break both he and County need.

Like you say a risk, but he will be busting a gut to prove he has what it takes:nod:

Our manager history is ridiculous really. Im sure the stat is 9 managers in 6 years. The last manager to spend 2 whole seasons was Big Sam. However, we do seem to stumble every now and again on a gem that takes us up, always loose them to bigger clubs though.

Thompson was busting a gut trying to proove he has what it takes - problem was he didn't. McParland has the players already there, he needs to motivate and be tactically good.

So McParland is the new manager, under Notts County - wikipedia they have him as manager.

Is this now official?

No, its not official.

Rumour around Meadow Lane is that its almost a done deal. We will probably have to wait until after Saturdays game against Mansfield. John Gannon is caretaker manager. Personally I'd like to see Gannon have a game or two to see what he's got.

Should be some game, especially taking into account the present predicaments of both clubs:nod:

I honestly think we should take it - their still playing the fat kid Dan Martin

I think you will, they need some big results and soon though.

I believe your lot will be ok, a bit of stability, a few results, get 500-1000 back on the gate and maybe push for a play off berth.

What do you honestly think?

The crowds will be back for Charlie. No doubt about that. A push for a playoff birth is certainly possibly.
