Sam Allardyce has sounded Newcastle's battlecry by claiming a win at Reading at the weekend will put them on course for a top-four finish.

Allardyce has revealed he set his rebuilt squad a target of 20 points in the first ten games and they are just one win short of that ambitious total. Allardyce said: "I have always split the season up into four phases and we have one game left.

"If it's a win, that gives us 20 points from 10 games. That is the ultimate goal for now. Then it's two points a game. That's a top-four finish.

"We are not saying we will be able to keep it up, perhaps we will, perhaps not. But we've taken 17 points from nine games and it's the best start to a season here in more than 10 years.

"I think it's all coming together considering we all just came together this summer. We need to work on keeping a clean sheet, but we are scoring freely."

Do you think this is possible? I don't see why not tbh. If they stay injury free as they are playing pretty well at the moment and scoring plenty of goals. If probably won't happen as the season averages everything out, but they will finish in the top half and probably end up playing in Europe.

Bastards!!! lol

:roflmao: I seriously doubt it. Let have a look at their fixtures and results shall we?
Newcastle 3-1 Tottenham - Team who's in the relegation zone at the minute so easy game, we probably couldn't beat them but nevermind.
Newcastle 3-2 Everton - Close game and lucky bastard owen scored in 90 minutes
Man City 3-1 Newcastle - OOH LOOK A LOSS HERE! Off Man City, well they are playing good at the minute so that was expected.
Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle - Expected, arsenal are on fire atm
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham - Poor team, expected win
Derby 1-0 Newcastle - I actually laughed out loud at that result
Newcastle 1-0 Wigan - Poor team, expected win
Middlesbrough 2-2 Newcastle - Poor team, should of won if they were playing good
Newcastle 0-0 Villa - Erm don't know what to say about that game lol
Bolton 1-3 Newcastle - Poor team, expected win.

Anyway, basically, they can't win against the good teams, they win against the poor teams and THEY CANT EVEN BEAT BORO!! So i sincerely doubt that they'll make the top 4.

Edit - They might make it to Europe.

I dont think so. I think Man City has already replaced Chelski as one of the big 4

man city are the most probable of breaking into the top 4 out of any of the other teams. but i think their main problem will be having enough steam to carry on at that quality for the whole season
they had a good win against Man utd but lost against arsenal....if they are gonna get into the top 4 they are gonna have to beat a few more top teams.

I hope so, but top 6 or top 8 is more realistic.

Yes well this season it MIGHT be different, my prediction though would be for a place in the top 8. The team/club isn't top 4 material at the moment.

We won't finish 20th, Mossley did last season
This is Newcastles best start to the season since 1996 :roflmao: beating poor teams
equals to their best start to the season

But if a team was the go a whole season beating, as you've put it, the 'poor teams' they'd make into the top 6 of the premiership at least.

I personally think we'll achieve a UEFA cup slot from the league which I'd be more than happy with.

Dont think top 4. Probably a solid 5-9 finish is more realistic

Hmm, I can see them having a hard time when the African Nations is about (think its around the new year). Without the power of Martins its a blow to that position. Owen isn't the force he once was therefore, upfront, it'll be tricky.

Owen will be injured again soon, he's like Woodgate.

There is more than 4 teams I can't see Newcastle finishing above.

Man utd
Arsenal
Liverpool
Chelsea
Man city

The top 4 is possible and I wouldn't rule it out but IMO between 5th and 8th is more realistic but if we get it fantastic and we have made a super start to the season. BTW good luck to both boro and sunderland I hope they both get into the top 10 though its all but impossible but good luck none the less as it looks good for north east footy heres hoping to an unlikely treble of wins this weekend. If we are to make it then reading away is a must win.

Yeah Im getting worried it was supposed to be a quick injury but Ive heard that all before and he has missed the last 4 (including tommorow) he is a pivotal player for us and he and owen IMO is our best partnership despite martins good form smith has made a solid start for us and milner is milner a class act.
