Five players are currently away from Arsenal on loan. Swiss international defender Johan Djourou will be getting valuable Premiership experience after joining newly-promoted Birmingham City until January. Elsewhere, defender Matthew Connolly will spend the entire campaign at Championship club Colchester United while Kerrea Gilbert and Jay Simpson will be in League One with Southend United and Millwall respectively. Promising Mexican striker Carlos Vela will play his football in Spain with La Liga side Osasuna.

Keep up-to-date with the fortunes of all our loan stars in our regular Loan Watch...

Matthew Connolly
Colchester United

Coventry City 1-0 Colchester, October 27
Matt Connolly returned to the Colchester starting line-up for the first time since his dismissal against Charlton six weeks ago. The young defender could do little to prevent a spectacular Michael Misfud strike nine minutes from time earning all three points for Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena. The U’s are having an up-and-down season and are now 16th in the Championship.

Jay Simpson
Millwall

Leeds 4-2 Millwall, October 27
Jay Simpson was introduced on 62 minutes at Elland Road with the score already 4-0 to the home side. Goals from David Prutton, Jermaine Beckford and a three-minute brace from Jonathon Douglas propelled the still unbeaten Leeds United into the play-off positions. Millwall pulled two goals back to add some respectability to the scoreline with Will Hoskins and Ahmet Brkovic on target for the Lions.

Carlos Vela
Osasuna

Osasuna 2-2 Valladolid, October 28
Carlos Vela played for the final 18 minutes as Osasuna clawed back a 2-0 deficit late on at home to Valladolid. Robres Alvaro Rubio and Jonathan Sesma looked to have earned the visitors an important win but Eduardo Dady struck twice, his first from a Vela cross, in six minutes to ensure the points were shared.

Johan Djourou
Birmingham

Birmingham City 3-2 Wigan, October 27
Johan Djourou did not feature as Birmingham recorded a crucial home win over Wigan at St Andrews. With prospective buyer Carson Yeung watching on from the stands, the Blues twice came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory. Marcus Bent scored twice for the visitors, now without a win in eight, but a brace from Olivier Kapo and one from Liam Ridgewell sealed the win.

Kerrea Gilbert
Southend United

Southend United 0-1 Carlisle, October 27
Kerrea Gilbert once again watched on from the sidelines as Southend were beaten at home for the second time this month. A Joe Garner goal just before the hour sent Carlisle to the top of League One and means the Shrimpers drop three places to fifth.

I saw a bit of Championship goals, and Jay Simpson was involved in the 2nd, in their 4-2 defeat to Leeds coming off the bench, from what i heard he could be one for the future. It's nice were recognising Vela as an Arsenal player, i hope we get to see him play for us soon, even just some pre-season stuff, like Man U did with Dong Fanzou before he got his Work Permit.

This Carlos Vela kid is tipped for big things - hows he been doing?

from all accounts he's been doing well, not playing 90 mins, but lots of cameo's a bit like Walcott
