Icon47 Boro chief against winter break

Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson insists demands for a Premier League winter break to help ease player burn-out are totally unjustified.

Well said Gibbo, you speak common sense. If they are tired rest them, clubs have big enough squads these days.

I love the winter period, they should leave football as it is. Players never complained 10 years ago when they had to play 40+ league games a season. The top 4 in particular should have the money and depth to rest their key players anyway

EXACTLY!!!

At the end of the day football is here for the fans and the Xmas period is the best time of the season, going to the matches with your family, having a drink before the game and after the game, its great, nice crisp frosty days or even snowy, I love it and this would ruin football if they had a break then. It a time when people are off work and a lot of people who don't usually go to the games actually go.

Our team is too small at the moment. All the subs / replacements are youth. Or people just out of the academy.

i want to know one thing- if there are 20 teams in the premier league and everyone plays each other twice then there's 38 games, if there was a 2 week breack in the winter then there's still 20 teams and everyone still plays each other twice so there's still 38 games, but less time to play them in. how does that reduce fixture congestion or combat burn-out?

Interupting the season and the run of in form teams will not be good for the game. If Man U were on a 10 game winning streak leading up to a winter break will have Sir Alex raging for sure yes:
