With Croatia and Russia both losing, England have to be favourites on paper, to top the group. But looking on at the paper we have a strong side who should get a result on Wednesday. But when they are on the pitch anything can happen, we are so inconsistent tat the moment, we need to get some consistency and we need someone other than McClaren to kick the players up their arse and get them into gear.

We have the players to beat Coratia on Wednesday but performing on the night will be a totally different story, yes we are at home but will the support get behind the players or if things start badly will the crowd turn against the team and the manager.

Whatever happens this is one of England biggest games for a long time and it should be very entertaining yet nervy.

If England do lose, they are all but certain to crash out. Russia's final match is against group minnows Andorra - currently on a run of 29 successive Euro qualifying defeats - and a Russian victory will put them on 24 points, one ahead of a defeated England.

An England draw coupled with a Russia win means both teams finish on 24 points. England will qualify because teams which finish level on points are divided according to their head-to-head record. England have the edge on goal difference after their 3-0 win at home in London was followed by a 2-1 defeat away in Moscow.

We are lucky that we are now in the position where our own fate is in our hands. I'm pretty sure our boys will step up their game since they know how much is riding on it.

If we win it'll be called a lucky escape for England unless we put out a really convincing performance. If we lost... Steve Mclaren would definately lose his job and the papers would have a field day.

I am sure every Englishman will be right behind England on Wednesday night, and rightly so. I just feel pretty strongly about one or two things though. The first thing being this. ANY BOOING of ANY English player or member of the management team MUST NOT HAPPEN on Wednesday night.

Whatever we all think of Steve McClaren, David Beckham, Frank Lampard and others including David Bentley this booing has GOT TO STOP. We've got to unite behind the team and the management now, starting from Wednesday night and right through until the European Championship finals and beyond.

firstly Darren your such a tool, stop writing posts to be deleted, just keep em to yourself, lol.

Right, England have quite firmly been given a get out of jail free card. If we don't suceed now, then quite rightly McClaren should be sacked, and the new manager, should question every player in the squad. They must win and put in a good performance on home soil, to prove their earlier attempts were just a small blip.

Interestingly, if England and Russia Lose, and Isreal Win, they can sneak through in second place, I think.

first off, 5 wins and 1 defeat on a plastic pitch in the last six competetive games is hardly inconsistant

secondly, fans have a right to their oppinions, and if beckham plays ahead of wright-phillips the decision deserves to be booed

and thirdly, israel are out- how could they catch us after drawing and losing to us?
