Wenger to save English football says Trevor Brooking!

Sorta - didn't mention Rhys Murphy,Emmanuel Frimpong and Jack Wilshire by name though:

Trevor Brooking believes that some of the best English talent is coming through the ranks at Arsenal according to Arsene Wenger.

Wenger has been constantly berated for allegedly soiling our national game by bringing in a whole host of 'dirty foreigners', despite it being obvious to anyone with half a brain that Le Boss has been trying to fix the problems with the academies whilst at the same time taking the Gunners to the pinnacle of English football. Something that the director of football development, Trevor Brooking, appreciates.

He said: 'I spoke with Trevor Brooking this morning and he agrees that some of the best young English players are coming through at Arsenal.

'There are some boys in our Under-17 team who will soon have the technical quality to compete at the level of our senior team. But we need to be patient with them. I do not believe England don't have the players to compete with the rest of the world and I don't see why England could not play the Arsenal way.'

'It was a real shock to me that we could not get the point we needed on Wednesday. I say 'we' because I am an England supporter, too. After 11 years here, of course I am. I love the passion for football here.'

'Unfortunately, apparently I am to blame because I don't produce enough English players!'

how can he claim he is not at least partly to blame total number of english players in the last squad for a premier league game- 1. number brought through by arsenal and mr wenger- 0

the kids team in the league cup- 5, 4 from that came through arsenals youth teams (not enough really)

total number listed in the first team on the website- 5 of 30 (nowhere near enough)

total number in the last england team 0

number listed in the reserves/youth section of the website- 16 (just enough to make a squad)

hardly a benefit to the english game is it?

then theres the fact that some of those inevitably fall by the wayside, some others get a chance but don't look good enough at senior levels, and some others (as has been the trend at every top-flight club recently) get replaced by a foreigner who became available at the wrong time for them and end up in the championship with noone realising they are still in football until 3 years later, by which time the national team will have found someone else that has become an undroppable name

Thats the thing though, why do WE always get looked upon as the problem putting the so called English crop of talent at bay?
Every time this topic merges everyone jumps on the bandwagon and criticises Arsenal. What about the other 19 clubs in the Premiership? one of the worlds most elite leagues and yet about half of clubs in it are very much capable of producing good young talent.
Put it this way, players aren't exactly flying out of Man Utd's academy are they?

What people get wrong too is that Arsenal's academy is different to others in comparison. Its not solely about nurturing English talent, its about the best of the best. You come through the ranks if your GOOD enough, not ethnicity, in which Arsenal constantly get bombarded on.

acadamies are about nuturing local talent- arsehole make use of a loophole that allows young foreigners to move at 16 and bring them through rather than the ones whove been there years (infact your academy is either foreign or made up of other teams players for the simple reason those clubs need money)

your academy is a pointless excercise

man utds isn't much better, but it has contributed infinite more to recent england squads than arsenal have- do you really expect praise?

first team to play a domestic fixture without a single english player, which you've done many times since- i can't even think of another club who could do that

paul scholes, gary neville, carrick, hargreves, rooney, wes brown, ferdinand, foster, Chris Eagles, Tom Heaton, Adam Eckersley, theres 11 there registered with the first team, foster is the only one not to play for united this season cause of injury,

funny thing the first 7 are regular first team players

Chris Eagles, when United are strapped for players, you might see him make an appearance. The others, however, I've never heard or seen play against a Premiership side.

My post was towards W4L.

they made appearances which counts i missed Fraizer Campbell and Lee Martin, so theres actually 13 English players they we have played this season, ok maybe 1 game but they still have played, but still 7 regular first team players and if there all still there next season Foster will proberly be our number 1 keeper so we will 8 regualr first team players
