Apparently Bury did not complete the proper paperwork for Stephen Turnbull. As he is on loan from Hartlepool United, Bury were required to get there permission to use him before the match. As it is, Chester City now move on to play Ipswich Town in the third round, although Bury can appeal the decision.
==============
A bit harsh but, rules are rules and they probably knew they needed the paperwork but risked it and its all gone wrong for them.
Bury have appealed and will probably win the appeal. You can understand the FA wanting to make rules rules, but to throw a small team out for technical reasons, when it was a question of filling in forms is ridiculous. They'll probably just get fined or something.
Was it Hartlepool who made the complaint?

good news for chester.
i dont think its a harsh decision.
fielding an inelegible player is unexcusable and should recieve punishment.
teams have been thrown out before for things like this. so if the fa want any consistency it has to be done.
from what i've heard, the player isnt supposedly that brilliant for them anyway so its a bit of a bitch.
if only theyd of fielded him against us instead....

I thought they usually make the two teams in question have a replay?

If they were told specifically they couldn't play the player it is but when it comes down to paperwork, they should understand that mistakes happen and punished accordingly rather than punished to make a point. It's not like spitting or diving where it's a big issue and we need to stamp it out of the game

A bit harsh I think, but if anything Itll teach the inner-sanctum at Bury to be more thourough in the future.

I think Casper had phoned up the team in question and asked about turnbull playing, he assumed this was enough and didnt get the necessary paper work resulting in them being boted out.
I personally think there was a better way to handle the matter as it was a mistake. I think Casper even suggested resigning then they could still be in it.

Rules are rules, and aren't there to be broken.
that's why bury should be punished but surely they should be punished proportionaly

Bury's appeal against their expulsion from the FA Cup has been rejected by the Football Association.
The Shakers were thrown out of the tournament after fielding on-loan Hartlepool's Stephen Turnbull in the 3-1 second-round replay win over Chester despite the midfielder being ineligible.
Following a hearing on Thursday, their appeal against the decision was rejected.
Their League Two rivals Chester will now face Championship side Ipswich in the third round.

Thats unlucky for Bury as it will be alot of money that they will lose out on. Especially a small club like Bury.
