The Scottish Premier League have agreed to postpone Rangers' game against Gretna to help Walter Smith's squad prepare for their Champions League decider against Lyon.

The Gers asked for Sunday's game, which had been due to kick-off at 4pm, to be rearranged as they face the French champions next Wednesday at Ibrox.

Rangers will now visit Fir Park to play the Clydesdale Bank Premier League bottom club on Wednesday, January 16.

The SPL agreed to the request after consulting Gretna and Setanta Sports, who were planning live coverage of the game.

I find the SFA is very lenient to teams nowadays...they seem to be allowing postponements rather frequently.

It might be only Gretna but it would be a shame to recieve some stupid injury before such an important game.

The last time Celtic asked for a postponement we were told where to get off. So no surprises that Smith's SFA give Rangers a game off prior to Lyon. I've no problems with moving games. Just that it should apply to all.

Celtic never asked for it to moved until the thursday when they were playing on the Saturday though. I'm sure if they gave decent enough notice then it would have been allowed.
