HARRIERS BRACED FOR CONSTABLE BIDS

Blue Square Premier club Kidderminster Harriers are bracing themselves for a bid for hot-shot James Constable after no less than SIXTEEN Football League scouts - including West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace - turned up to watch the New Year`s Day clash with Forest Green Rovers.

With the Blue Square Premier's two star strikers, Constable and 30-goal hit-man Stuart Fleetwood, on show in Harriers 1-0 victory over the Gloucestershire side, scouts from across the country flocked to Aggborough.

With Forest Green chairman Colin Gardner placing a minimum of £250,000 price tag on his former Wales under-21 international, attentions may turn to Constable.

The ex-Walsall player, who has netted thirteen goals this term, only signed for Kidderminster on a permanent basis last January.

He is contracted to the Aggborough outfit until the end of next season, and while there have been no formal approaches for the 23-year-old, Harriers' chairman Barry Norgrove says that there has been interest.

"There have been a number enquires about James over the past couple of months but nothing concrete," he said.

"We haven't placed a price tag on James because there has not been anything formal, but we would like six figures. On New Year`s Day there were sixteen scouts at the match, including the Albion.

"They probably weren't all there for James, but I have heard clubs in London are talking about him."

Interest in Harriers' prize asset may have dwindled a little in the past month, due to his three-match ban following his sending of against Oxford United last month, but with the transfer window only open for one month, formal offers for Constable may come later in January.

Constable is one of four players suspended for Saturday`s trip to York City, with Justin Richards, Andy Ferrell and Russ Penn, joining the 23-year-old in the stands.
But Harriers' manager Mark Yates says he will not panic buy before the weekend.
