Silence or applause?

Man Utd’s game with Man City on Sunday February 10th will mark 50 years since the Munich tragedy.
How do you think the crowd should react, and why?

Applause for me!
Silence is usually always marred by a few idiots!

I'd go for silence as that was the done thing at the time of tradgedy!
If any City fans didn't observe it then they would only be making a show of themselves & Their club!
After all Frank Swift also played for City!
I agree with your point but even if it was us I think anyone who shouted any abuse would be put down by the majority! I would certainly wipe the floor with anyone who did!
I remember though an incident over Don Revie's silence being marred by Utd fans!

As have celtic with the ibrox disaster, albeit only a very small minority of them, the vast majority are decent enough. But in a stadium that falls silent,it only needs 1 or 2 to be heard.

I think it’s all about the circumstances. It somehow seems more fitting when a crowd applaud a footballer who has given so much pleasure to so many people, like George Best for example.
Personally, I think that the tragedy in Munich which saw the loss of so many lives should be respected with silence.

It should be a minute's silence in my opinion. In this case though I would really think seriously about it. After all anybody who thinks that ALL the Manchester City fans will respect this on 10th February is very naive.

Obviously I hope that I am wrong, but I just can't see it. In a recent match the Manchester City fans were heard singing "we're all going to the golden jubilee" after all.

A minute's silence in my view. When you go to a funeral you don't applaud now do you?

Silence.

I hope it is a silent tribute, and that all present remain silent and respect the memory of all the victims of what was a tragic accident.

Any abuse that either set of fans wish to voice, should be directed at the present day players when the game commences, that is traditional and expected.

Trouble is there's a lot of teenagers in the crowd who don't understand the meaning of respect. Trust me I teach them. Its not always a concious effort on their part to be obnoxious it just doesn't dawn on them how important an occasion like this is to most. Nice to see that at least the members on here agree.
