why would it. it would attract other players i would think. loads of players would want to play with someone as well known as beckham

So he wouldn't come and play us if he went to them? Cool...

I can't see him going there.

He can't do it anymore in my opinion. As a matter of fact I think he has always been overated anyway. That's just probably me being weird though.:nodyes:

I totally agree with you. He would be an asset in any team even though he's probably past his best. He's still got a beautiful right foot and can read the game well. Plus he can motivate the players around him.

would be great for the youngsters at the club aswell to look up to him.

wages could be a problem though. and why would you swap america for the north east of england

I am Newcastle supporter (well sort of) and personally I wouldn't want him. Of course that might make me the only supporter in the world that doesn't, but I am being totally honest.

I'm not sure players would be attracted to the thought of being outstaged by an old over rated player :p

Beckham should just stay in Yankie land where he belongs now. Easiest option all round.

He'd look a right tit if he did a U-turn and came back to the prem now. He insisted he was off to LA to make football huge in the US. Dont think he's achieved that yet has he?

Well, you're probably right. But Kevin Keegan is well respected throughout football and players love his enthusiasm for the game. Don't underestimate his pulling power.

I agree with you, it doesn't seem like it will happen.

But from a commercial and business point of view, it would have been a major coup regarding the finances that the Beckham brand would have generated for the mags.

From a playing point of view, well that we will probably never know, could he have cut it again in the Prem league, we can all speculate one way or the other.

I for one would like to see him play again in England, even if it was on a very short term basis.

Dont we already have the token player in Owen? Surely what we really need is fresh talent not a player at the end of his career.

I ain't bothered about tokens, I ain't bothered about what you mags need, all I am saying is that I would like to see Beckham play again in the Prem.

End of his career, he will decide that.

There are a lot of good players who have taken care of themselves still playing into their late thirties. Beckham is fit enough to, if he so desires, join that happy band of fit veterans.

23-01-2008, 20:45
Didn't I read in another thread that you can see Leeds back in the prem in a couple of seasons. Will he still be fit enough in a couple of years then you can have him!:hahaha:

Leeds United Football Club have in the past made good use of players in and approaching the so called veteran category.

2 that come instantly to mind and who both were over 30 year old when they signed, are, in the early sixties, Bobby Collins, and in the late eighties, Gordon Strachan, both joined Leeds United, both players captained Leeds United under Leeds legendary title winning managers Don Revie and Howard Wilkinson respectively.

Although Wee Bobby, who is only 5ft 3inches in height never lifted the title, he retired through a bad injury, Wee Gordy a giant at 5ft 6 inches tall lifted the title in 1992.

So no, I would have no hesitation in backing a good old un signing on for my club, age is a number, it is skill, passion, desire and fitness that matters.

i don't care who he signs for, anyone will do- i hear sheff utd are after players and with them being the best team in the championship and easily getting promoted after taking 6 points off us he may be interested. be interesting seeing if people still demand his inclusion playing outside the top-flight (despite the fact its a better level than the mls)

I am devastated Shearer is not going to Newcastle, due to the fact we could of had on one hand, Keegan - the most erratic, "cant handle pressure" manager with, Shearer, the "I bore everyone to death" approach.

Would have worked a treat.

Burley should have gone to the newcs, he is the most boring person in football.

Shearer runs him close though.

Why did you love the Keegan team? Was it Ginola and Asprilla, two overpaid tarts that did it for you?

You have peculiar slant on legendary status.

Ginola only played 58 times for the newcs.

Asprilla 48 times.

That is not legendary status.

Both fantastic talents who played in a very exciting and entertaining side, that maybe should have won a trophy.

But IMO neither player deserves Newcastle Legendary Status.

IMO true Newcastle United legends are players like

Hughie Gallacher
Len White
Jackie Milburn
Malcolm MacDonald
Peter Beardsley
Shay Given
Bobby Moncur
Chris Waddle
Kevin Keegan
Terry Mc Dermott
Willie McFaul
John Tudor
Terry Hibbitt
Joe Harvey.

Not fly by night chancers.

My opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

Only Milburn, Harvey and McFaul were anywhere near been "1 club men".

In todays game players like -

Jamie Carragher
Steve Gerrard
John Terry
Gareth Barry
Paul Scholes
Ryan Giggs
Gary Neville

have all represented only 1 club at senior level.

Gary Kelly and Mathew Le Tissier only ever played for 1 club.
