After Pools' more than terrible performance on Friday night, resulting in a 2-0 defeat, last night's performance against Southend proved to be evident of both Pools' capability and weaknesses.
On Friday, an air of disappointment filled the Vic after Pools not only lost, but put in a shameful performance, too. A performance that was highlighted by the lack of points collected from that match.
Tuesday was another matter. After Friday's display, Wilson warned that no player's position was guaranteed on the pitch, or in the club at all. Southend saw a more stronger, determined Hartlepool, which perhaps is why they felt their need to bully their way through the match.
At the start of the season, I was sure that we would be fighting for a play-off position, and now, I think we will be fighting for any position at all in League One, if Tuesday Night's performance doesn't continue, and improve. Tuesday saw an attacking side who weren't afraid to make the most of all opportunities, but it also pointed out that no matter how much we attack, a new, or vastly improved defence is needed, if Pools are to succeed in this league.
I hope for the sake of Danny Wilson and the players that Pools can pick up a higher standard that we know they are more than capable of playing, but more importantly, for the people who run the club: the fans.
