They have hard cash to put down for a start!
They have to be better than the 2 lying Bastards who have broken promises & put our club into debt!

Liverpool's American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, seem set to walk away from the club that they took over less than a year ago after Dubai Investment Capital (DIC) issued an improved offer to the pair.

The mirror cites 'sources in New York' that claim that a deal could be signed and sealed by mid-March.

DIC, owned by Dubai's government under the tutelage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, are said to be ready to splash out £460m for the Anfield side.

This is significantly more than Hicks and Gillett paid for the club last year, but in fact the deal is somewhat more complex than a straight swap.

Due to the duo's recent refinancing deal - worth £350m - they will profit heavily from such a transaction, with the Reds currently servicing a nine-figure debt. This refinancing package was set up in order to free up funds for the club's new stadium and to fund player signings.

An 'insider' said, "These talks are still ongoing. Tom and George want to make sure they get the right price for giving up the club."

The above report came out of the mirror earlier in the week! The same week that began with Hicks stating that there was no way he was selling!

Liverpool must resist temptation from Dubai

When they come to write the history of English football in the opening years of the 21st century, they may identify a cold January evening at Anfield as the moment when the game was confronted by its future.

As Liverpool played out a dreary draw with Aston Villa, a section of the crowd bellowed choruses of protest against the club's American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

The two men were accused of undermining the manager, Rafael Benitez, attempting to heap debt upon the club with a refinancing deal and generally trampling roughshod over the sacred traditions of Liverpool Football Club.

Since the Americans were back home in America, jabbing their pocket calculators and planning their next money-making manoeuvre, the slogans floated impotently away upon the night air.

But the banners still waved, mostly anti-American and painstakingly produced by scallies seeking to be wags.

'U messed up Vietnam, U messed up Iraq, Don't mess with Scousers by giving Rafa the Sack' scribbled one political philosopher.

And there were lots more, equally sad, limp and witless. We were reminded that while Liverpool may have given us the incomparable Ken Dodd, it also churned out the likes of Jimmy Tarbuck. Yet some of the placards carried another, more disturbing message: 'Dubai SOS — Yanks Out'... 'Yanks Out — Dubai In'.

There can be scant sympathy for the Americans, especially for that nice Mr Hicks, who apparently helped place the unspeakable George Dubya on the road to the Presidency, but this yearning for Middle Eastern control is quite another matter.

'Dubai' refers to Dubai International Capital or DIC, which describes itself as 'A Dubai-based international investment company that primarily focuses on private and public equity'.

It is an investment arm of the United Arab Emirates government and it sees Liverpool FC as a potentially useful addition to its portfolio.

Now the UAE has undoubted virtues. It also has a few drawbacks, such as its refusal to grant entry to citizens of Israel. And not just citizens. One official directive informs us that: 'Any contact with Israel, including having an Israeli entry stamp in your passport, will preclude you from entry into the UAE.'

And so, should DIC win control of Liverpool and should they wish to arrange a celebratory fixture in Dubai between, say, Liverpool and a UAE XI, then presumably they cannot include their club captain Steven Gerrard or their defensive stalwart Jamie Carragher, both of whom were members of England's squad for the European Championship qualifying match in Israel last year.

And as for Yossi Benayoun, the Israel captain who scored Liverpool's opening goal against Villa, don't even think about it.

There may be a difference between that kind of discrimination and the brand which was once so popular in apartheid South Africa, yet I cannot detect it.

I'm not sure if that consideration crossed the minds of those who paraded placards at Anfield the other evening, but it should have done.

Instead, they bayed at the moon and demanded the success they enjoyed when European Cups were won almost to order.

Those were the days when the benevolent Moores family controlled club affairs.

Indeed, looking down at the Anfield demonstration the other evening was the former owner, David Moores.

He wore a deeply concerned expression. "I wonder what he must be thinking," said one simperingly sympathetic commentator.

Personally, I have no idea. And, since he trousered around £88 million by selling his shares to Messrs Hicks and Gillett, I really don't care.

Because the modern game has long since abolished such sentiment. Football was once run by flint-hearted chairmen, plucked from their local Chambers of Commerce.

They persecuted managers, patronised fans and paid their players a pittance.

And when hard times arrived, they fobbed off their creditors with complimentary Cup Final tickets.

And yet, by and large, they actually loved their clubs. They loved the noise and the passion. They loved the reflected glory when the team played well and they even relished the notoriety when things went wrong.

They weren't out to make money, because there was little to be made.

No, they were involved because Rovers or United or Wanderers or City was their club, springing from their community. They were lumbered and they loved it.

It hasn't been that way for a long time and certainly not since the Premier League arrived to promote the virtues of untrammelled greed.

And it certainly wasn't that way last week, when a stadium which once rang with hymns of praise to Shankly, Paisley and the great men of the Mersey now bellowed its dubious yearning for 'A Dubai-based international investment company that primarily focuses on private and public equity'.

We saw the future the other evening. And it was not a pretty sight.

i picked it up frm another forum- no name given on there

now if these are a branch of the government how do you know that all the daft rules that the government has on entry isn't used for liverpool players. and surely people realise that liverpool is going to be used solely in the interests od the government and not the fans or club as a whole

supporting a company coming in a takeover without knowing anything about them (or even knowing about them but just wanting to get rid of current owners) is extreme short-sightedness (if thats a word) reminiscent of the owls trust backing bates

I Have read plenty of stuff about Dic & I have not heard that talk before!
What I have heard is they are Football Fans who are also Business men!
They Will obviously want a return on thier money, who wouldn't!
Everything they have invested in in the past has been improved!
And if it doesn't work out how we hope then we can at least take heart from the fact that it is better to have just:

One Dic at the club rather than Two Dicks!!!!!!

they may well be "fans" and business men- doesn't change the fact that their business is an arm of the government and therefore they will run it for the benefit of them
