Ok HD-DVD has been dropped so they arnt going to produce any more new films on it, but for under £50 it works as a dvd player and upscales to 1080i so if you got a hd tele with hdmi heres a cheap dvd upscalier, and some of the films out at the moe will drop in price soon as well, with production of no more

Toshiba has abandoned HD DVD "following recent major changes in the market", it announced this morning. The company spun the failure of its favourite format as a move made to strengthen the industry.
The consumer electronics giant said it will "no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders".
It will begin to reduce shipments of HD DVD players to retail channels, aiming to stop shipping product by the end of March.
Consumers who've bought into HD DVD will continue to be supported, Toshiba said. However, we have to question the long-term availability of software updates since the format arguably now has no real future.
looks like not anymore, most of the film companies went over to Blu-ray last week

Sony rose in Frankfurt trading on optimism the victory will spur sales of high-definition players by removing the uncertainty over which technology would prevail in the $22 billion market. U.S. retailers decided to stop sales of HD DVD products after Warner Bros. Entertainment, the largest DVD publisher, said last month it would side with Blu-ray.

They've lowered the prices over here too. I feel sorry for the ones that are uninformed and will fall for it

that's amazing, but also inevitable. they spent a **** load of cash developing and manufacturing this technology, now they are scrapping it.
By all accounts, HDdvd, has a larger capacity than blu-ray. So more data means better value for money, it's a shame that they had to mess with the consumer market so much, and we probably won't see this kind of format war again.

blu-ray has the larger capacity upto 50gb and hs-dvd had upto 30gb and the blu-ray works out cheaper per gb on the disk.
Microsoft paid out $million to film companies to get there films on hd-dvd only but it still didnt work out , which im glad as the blu-ray is far better
