As you probably know, the site keeps going down every so often. Everytime the site goes down i get an email so i look at the server straight away and i see loads of ip addresses from the same ip, over 150 of them all connecting to the httpd server are crashing it.
This is also known as a doss attack and all the ips are coming from blueyonder they keep changing every day but they are all from blueyonder. I am trying my best to get the site up and running as soon as we get attacked.
Someone really doesn't was the site to be up and working but I won't give in on them and i've got the full support of my host who's banning the ips and reporting them to bluyonder so they will probably get their accounts closed or a warning.
I would just like to appologise for the downtime as it shouldn't really be happening. It only happens 3 -5 times per day and last for about 5 - 20 minutes. We will get to the bottom of the problems and get the site restored to 99% up time very soon

well the whole range of ips have been banned. But this might have blocked everyone on blueyonder getting on the site.

aye but all they need to do is contact you or any of the mod team and surely you can open it up for any genuine people
no it hasn't, i'm on blueyonder :)
At least it's stopped now.

oh right, well some of blueyonder can't get on. Anyway yesterday we had 100% uptime and it looks like were going to have the same today. Which is nice. :)
what happened today, there was a downtime of about 3 hours. I hope it wasn't another doss atack

Im not 100% sure what it was, i couldn't log on or anything. I eventually did log on and just restarted the http server and the database server. Everything is ok now. It may have been vbseo so i've taken that down.
I know i said i wasn't going to run vbseo until i can afford the extra memory but i though as the forums bee running 100% fine the past 3 days i would give it a shot. I have done and it crashed the site. So thats been disabled.
Also the host reduced our memory from 512k to 256k today so it could have been that. Fingers crossed we will be ok now.

Just got a reply from the hosts for todays problems:
Hi, this was an smtp DoS attack on the firewall protecting your vps. We've null routed the offender and you should be ok now. Please let us know if you have any problems.

oh yeah i've started up vbseo as soon as I posted this. Everything is fine again. I don't know why I always blame vbseo.

That may explain why I keep getting those error messages, or why the forum won't work for 20 mins or so every now and then.
The people who keep doing this need to seriously get a life. Nothing pisses me off more than stupid little kids trying to HAXOR some forum for kicks. Piss off, you little shits.

well something happened this morning the server load was massive and we had no one on the forums. I've disabled vbseo for the time being, if nothing happens to the forum between now and the 7th Jan then I will keep vbseo disabled.

not sure mate but if you look at the post gap it's 6 and a half hours. bb said there was down time yesterday in the staff room.
