Despite being the subject of interest from Newcastle United, French goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle has signed for Lille on transfer deadline day.
The 25-year-old has returned to his home country on a season-long loan move from Valencia after failing to establish himself as a regular at the Mestalla.
Butelle had claimed earlier in the day that a move to St James’ Park was a possibility and that other unnamed English sides were also showing an interest.
However, having left Metz to join Valencia in 2004, the keeper has now completed a return to France.
