Villa would be better to take a cash wedge rather than have an unsettled player throughout the coming season. Barry is good but not a great.

I admit I have long been a fan of Barry's and I would be glad to see him join us as he could fit in really well giving us more balance, if what our Villa friend is saying about his contract is true then the ball is in his court he needs to follow Robbie Keanes example and hand in a transfer request to end this long drawn out saga. If he doesn't and we have a rejuvinated Xabi Alonso with a point to prove I wont lose too much sleep!

maybe, im not so sure, it was plain to see the difference he made coming into the walsall and odense matches. hes a professional and played his hardest and for that he has my respect. barry is the heartbeat of our team and losing him would be a big blow. i honestly think he'll stay for at least another year though.

I hope so too. I think he'll do fine if they give him time. Following Mark Hughes is a tough act, though. I'm afraid the Blackburn fans will get restless if the team starts struggling. They'll not be happy about losing Bentley either. But hopefully they'll be patient and let Ince build the squad his own way.

Like I keep saying, just send Xabi over to Arsenal, use the money to help buy Barry and everything will be just fine.

alonso and cesc would be a great pairing, but it would be a little suspect defensively. do you think denilson is ready to take flaminis place or wenger will go out and get someone?

Alonso has been playing a defensive midfield roll for the last 2 years

Yeah, Xabi could do just fine in the more defensive role, but in Arsenal's style it would still allow him to be creative at the same time. I think he and the club would be a perfect fit (aside from Shanks' objections, of course... ).
I do think Denilson is close to being ready, anyway. He's on the fringe of the Brazilian NT now too. I think he just needs a chance to gain more experience. I have confidence in Diaby and Song as well. But I still expect Wenger to bring in a more experienced defensive midfielder to pair with Cesc for a year or two, anyway. Probably not Xabi (although I do think it would be a brilliant pairing, as does Shanks -- in a less-excited-about-it way), but more likely someone from the continent.

Of course, keep an eye out for Aaron Ramsey over the next couple of years.

ah, didnt know that mate, i thought it was always macherano playing the defensive role, i always thought of alonso as more of a deep lying playmaker (ala cesc). admittingly i dont watch enough of liverpool to judge but i know he's quality

yeah diaby has promise. it always cracks me up hearing some arsenal fans say he's the next viera when they play a completly different style game. diaby is def an attack minded player. song im not so sure about, is wenger grooming him to be a CB?

Quality he is thats for certain! He has not been as effective over the last couple of seasons though and seems to have gone deeper & deeper(last season he was credited with just one assist).
Rafa sees Mascherano as his main holding player though and a new year bust up with Xabi who was returning from injury and was upset at having to train with the reserves seems to have left Rafa willing to sacrafice him.
Xabi vowed to leave the club during this bust up but later took back what he had said. But the emergence of Plessis & the need to raise funds has not helped Alonso's cause and he may yet be moved on.

yeah i think macherano is the best DM in the world currently. for villas sake i hope they hold onto him, i really want to see barry in the claret and blue come august. we need him, both for this campaign and the future of the club, but if he does end up in merseyside, fair play, he wants the CL. he isnt getting any younger, and wants to prove himself for the national team. im not going to be like alot of fickle villa fans who forget he gave 10 years of his life to the club. yes, the NOTW article was a mistake, and yes we're on the rise but we arent there yet. If gareth really wants it, he'll nut up and hand in a written transfer request, then us villans and scousers can put this saga to bed and move on.

oneil is doing my head in. I used to like him but all this, im not 2 sure anymore. barry wants 2 come so he should just accept that he wants 2 leave and let him go. Its getting ridiculous
