It would of been a total different outcome if they asked the public instead of tried thinking what the public want.

Smoking = no good comes from it.
The likes of pizza and fast food is all part of a healthy diet in moderation. The government can't stop people from eating certain amounts of pizza or take away.
As for car fumes, I totally agree with you. But at the end of the day, a car is in means of quicker travel. Smoking is means of a quicker life/death.
: I'm glad of the ban. Why should us non-smokers get lung cancer just cos a smoker wants to shut their nicotine cravings up for a bit.
The voices in my head say you're crazy

I am not bothered about the smoke to be honest. I was laughing at all the people smoking in the rain today. I didn't realise this many people actually wen drinking on Sundays!!!
But its good, surely the pubs can put in smoke machines lol.

I was in a pub in Amsterdam where they had like a huge glass tank for smokers, the smoke goes straight out thru the roof.

They did ask the public. Polls were conducted and came out with an overwhelmingly positive result. Non smokers are the majority so it's not really surprising.

The thing with car exhaust fumes is that you're not sitting in a room with a car engine running. Many of the pubs and clubs I've gone to are quite claustrophobic as it is. Lots of establishments simply aren't designed to be separated into smoking and non smoking areas. I'm quite happy for smokers to have areas in some places but I can see why a blanket ban is a good idea.

haha!!!!
i´m also smoking but if it´s raining outside and i´ve to go out for a cigarette.....never!!!

I went out on Friday night to our local, it was pissing it down but there were still around 30-40 people stood outside smoking. The landlord has now decided he's going to erect a huge canopy outside each entrance as he says around 80% of his clientele are smokers.
I really feel sorry for the Grimsby pub "The Smokers Arms". haha
(Yes I am a smoker!)

I didn't vote in these polls and I don't remember their being an official referendum. Not saying that if there was one it wouldn't be the same result but slowly, were having our liberties taken away from us by the politicians. Democracy is going from this country. Back on the subject of the smoking ban though, they should have made pubs pay for licenses so they could be non-smoking. If it's true that so many pubs are profiting then most wouldn't.

The license is a good idea. It would be a lot better. If you go to a pub now, can you see how empty it is when people go outside for a cig? It's well crap.
