Rangers have allegedly voiced an interest in taking veteran Stoke striker James Beattie to Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

Gers manager Walter Smith has already had talks with the Stoke hierarchy as he looks to add to his meagre first team squad. The Scottish champions are - for want of as better word - skint, and would need to negotiate carefully to get the £1.5 million asking price down and convince Beattie to take a cut in his £35,000-a-week wages.

However, the Daily Record suggests one way around the financial constraints for Rangers would be to take Beattie on a season long loan and paying half his wages.

I think his wages and his tendancy to be a it of a wanker around the dressing room also make me wary of this signing but if he can do the business then why not.

This rumour seems to have died a death.

Look's to be a deal on the cards. Stoke have accepted a £1.5 m offer from Gers, and Beattie is due for talks at Ibrox today.

Agree. Tho i think the wide position's need addressing more, than up front.Dont know how much money is available. But, over 4 mil on a striker seems a lot, in the Gers financial situation.
