Is time running out for GMT?

LONDON (Reuters) - A British politician is calling for the country to scrap Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and align its clocks with mainland Europe, in a bid to save energy and cut road accidents.

Conservative Tim Yeo put forward a bill, to be discussed in Parliament on Friday, proposing that Britain drop GMT for three years to assess the impact of the change.

Environmental and road safety researchers say a better alignment of waking hours and daylight hours would reduce demand for electricity and save lives during the evening rush hour.

But a similar attempt between 1969 and 1971 prompted a wave of protests from farmers and other early risers about the additional hours of morning darkness.

Campaigners for the new bill said the previous experiment showed that many more lives were saved by the extra hours of daylight in the evening.

Different work patterns and flexible office hours now mean the scheme stands a greater chance of success, they said.

Me thinks it's bullshit? What do you think about it?

i want it, i also heard that, they are bringing the day forward that the colcks go forward to earlier in the year and pushing back the other one to nearer the end of the year, so we'll get a longer British Summer Time BST, and means when you come home from work it might not be dark

Yea they should leave it as it is. I think it's a stupid idea to change it, I have no problems with the hours and the timing of darkness/light
