Bates tipped for Hammers switch

West Ham are believed to be closing in on Middlesbrough defender Matthew Bates plus two further players.
The Hammers have dismissed suggestions of massive financial problems and in fact announced that boss Gianfranco Zola is set to add to his squad.

Bates is a Boro fan but wants to stay in the Premier League, with West Ham thought to be favourites to land him ahead of Everton and Wigan.
