    FIFA Women's World Cup 2011

Anyone watching this? It's been going on for a little while now, and today and tomorrow there are the last group matches. The playing style is very different from what you're used to in gentlemen's games. I find it refreshing, and I am really glad that this year the Women's World Cup is finally getting attention by the media.

Today, the highlights are: England - Japan and France - Germany.

Tomorrow, don't miss the Sweden - USA game! USA is the second best team in the world (some call it best, I have my doubts), and last match the girls even got to sing "Born in the USA" after a goal. Yeah, you get some of these fluffly moments, but the football is great.

For bettors, I'm giving tips throughout the tournament on my bets blog (signature). So if you have suggestions or comments, let's hear them out!

i feel bad saying this, but i honestly couldnt care less about women's footy. to me its nothing more than a novelty.

i do remember watching one final USA v. China though and our girls won it in a penalty shootout. it was the infamous "sports bra" episode when the chick ripped her shirt off after she scored the winning penalty

i think that was the last one Mia Hamm was involved in too, and i will give her credit for all she does regarding exposure to the game i this country.

    japan win on pens

Japan beat USA 3-1 on penalties to become the first Asian nation to win the Fifa Women's World Cup.
Saki Kumagai scored the winning penalty after Ayumi Kaihori had saved two out of three American three spot-kicks.

I actually enjoyed this tournament. Japan played well considering what the country has been through the past year. I know they didn't have the training facilities they would have normally had because of disasters beyond their control. I also think that Japan was the feel good team that the neutral fan cheered on. I'm glad to see them win.
