    Bad News For Football League Academies!! EPPP

    Football League clubs fear eclipse under Premier League player plans | Football | The Guardian

    ====

    Rules preventing signing young players living more than 90 minutes' travelling time away would be lifted
    That will be Boros academy fucked!! Oh you can come train with Middlesbrough or Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City/United. They are hardly going to say Middlesbrough. So if the clubs vote for this then we can say goodbye to the likes of Downing or Adam Johnson type players, playing for the boro going through the youth academy!

    This proposed move will yet again widen the gap between the Premiership and Football league in the terms of quality.

    Though the Premier League's latest offer is significantly more generous than its first, Clarke's concerns are echoed by many academies. But with the Premier League withholding money from Football League clubs until they accept the plan, and having made it clear that it will not improve its offer, the Football League board has recommended clubs vote in favour. The FA has endorsed the EPPP.
    Surely that's blackmail!!!

    Apparently they've voted it in - 46 to 22, with three no-shows and one abstention.

    “The new tariffs will see a selling club paid £3,000-per-year for every year of a player’s development between the ages of nine and 11. The fee per year from 12 to 16 will depend on the selling club’s academy status – but ranges between £12,500 and £40,000.” -BBC

    The former club would then get an additional amount for every appearance he makes (for the Premier League: 10: £150k, 20: £300k, 30: £450k, 40: £600k, 50: £750k, 60: £900k, 70: £1m) – great if the player is a big hit, but disastrous if he never breaks out of the reserves, which will be the reality for most of these layers.
    Maybe every club should give every penny from every game played to the Premier League? No wonder people are getting more & more fucked off with football?

    Fairly easy working out what we would have got for the likes of Turnbull under these plans .....not a fkin lot

    That's not a lot of money. We've lost numerous players over the years from our academy and been force to take what the courts thought they were worth.

    So does this rule only apply to the club the player is sold to or in general. If he plays for 5 teams in the premiership and reaches 70 caps do we get the £1m or only the £150k if he barely featured for the first club.

    It's a one off payment as compensation for the time and money spent coaching him.
    You also have to realise that this refers to kids, on what was known as schoolboy forms, they may only be spending an evening a week at the academy, and then turning out for a local side on a Saturday or Sunday, it does not refer to players over the age of 16, who can leave home and be in digs.
    So some fears about the travelling may not happen.
