Middlesbrough are believed to be leading the chase for Swedish prospect Mervan Celik, skysports.com understands.
The 21-year-old forward is one of the top scorers in the Allsvenskan after a brilliant campaign which has seen him score 14 goals form 26 starts.
Celik is out of contract this December, and his club GAIS have all but accepted that he will be departing.
German giants Hamburg,Italians Atalanta
and Dutch sides PSV Eindhoven
and AZ Alkmaar
have all been linked.
But Swedish Under-21 international Celik is believed to prefer a move across the North Sea to the UK.
Scouts from Premier League and Championship clubs have been following him closely in recent weeks, but Boro have emerged as one of the contenders for his signature.
Celik, who is two-footed and can also play as a winger, will be able to move when the transfer window opens in January.
