VGA Failure (DMA Warnings) on my 1 year old laptop

I sent it back to where I bought it from for a whopping £35 and they come back with the fault today.

laptop fails to boot and Beeps twice followed by successive beeping and flashing lights indicating VGA failure. With test card fitted laptop gets display. I will contact the UK service center for cost of parts and update once available.
Its 2 months out of warranty and it been doing it since January, but I though it was driver related and i tried to fix it with no avail, as I've been away for most of the year I didn't have any time to return it and basically just got used to it, it started getting bad. I couldn't start the laptop with just the battery connected, I would get one long been them two beeps then another 2 beeps 1-2-2. Which is a DMA Initialisation failure.

I've been getting BSOD frequently and the computer has been freezing these happen 2 - 3 times per day. If its a VGA Failure would that mean I need to buy a new graphics card? Its costs a fortune, its a 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX480M PCI Express which won't come cheap.

As it was happening when it was under warranty could I try and get it repaired for free or at a discounted rate? I've asked them in a letter I sent with my laptop but have not had any reply from them. Like I say its 2 months out of warranty now. I'm probably too late and I guess it is my fault as I could have sent it back in July but it wasn't as bad as it is now.

    Cheers

Is it a HP by any chance, your best off having the graphics card re-soldered instead of spending £80 on a new one..

There not going to do a free repair and wanted £600 for a new graphics card so I've got the computer back (still freezing, froze twice today already and twice yesterday) I've wrote to consumer advice ad they've given me a template letter to send them. Apparently your statutory rights are stronger than the warranty in most cases so they might still be fixing it for free . They don't know I've contacted Consumer Advice so will be a nice surprise for them.

Well they said they wanted £600, got in contact with consumer direct and they gave me a template letter to send to them and told me to add a few things to it. Sent that back and last week had a letter from them saying they checked the serial number of the graphics card and they believe it is under manufacturers warranty still!!

Fucking funny that like!!! So if I was loaded and paid them £600 they would have claimed it back from nvidia! Robbing cunts!

Still costing me £35 to send it back to them!

Apparently Wi-Fi laptops can damage your sperm.

In your experience, not as much as sperm can damage your Wi-Fi laptop.

Sent my £1900 laptop (yeah a lot of money I know) back as it crashes constantly (as stated earlier in this thread)

I've been using my dads old laptop which is a toshiba, low spec and its been fabulous for going on the internet! Not crashed once!! Cost him about £350 when new ha!! But can't play anything as the graphics card is wank, well it doesn't have one ha, its shared with the motherboard.

just glad I complained and i'm in the process of getting it fixed under warranty thanks to my Statuary rights!!

Knowing your rights is a wonderful thing. so many people allow themselves to be bullied, etc, by people in shops. Had an experience myself in JD sports on Sunday, i absolutely ripped them to feckin pieces, they were crawling like a dying fly, in ever decreasing circles, trying to disappear up their own asses.cunts. Sadly they get away with it 99% of the time.

as one who has worked in a retail shop, i can tell you that most times its customers past their warranty who feel entitled to something that they arent who cause the problems. i had a guy come in with glasses once and he was over a year past his warranty and he wanted a new pair. i told him absolutely not and even offered to give him our half-off replacement discount (even though he was over 6 months past when he should normally get that too) and he demanded my regional managers number, etc which i gave him, knowing in the back of my mind i would get a call from my regional later thanking me for doing the right thing, which i did.

a lot of times people are unfairly harsh on the retail associates who are only doing what their superiors tell them to do, and who a lot of times truly have their hands tied.

also i can tell you with 100% certainty that if you're nice and patient with them, you get the results you want and a hell of a lot quicker. if a dude comes in fuming a lot of times we think its funny and take our sweet ass time. customers wanna play games, we did too.

thank fuck i have a real job now

Do you not have a Sales Of goods act, or something similar. If you buy something and it breaks out of warranty then if its not fit for purpose or not lasted as long as it should have then you are entitled to a free repair or replacement, companies have to abide by this Act. Its all about consumer protection.

I wasin JD sports on sunday, paid £110 for ablue adidas gillet,I wanted a black one, asked staffif they had any black they said no. Carried on browsing the shop after my purchase, on the sale rail they had got the black one i originally wanted,Priced £60. So i asked a staff member who turned out to be the manager if i could swap he, he said no problem. ( bear in mind i'd asked for black). Took itto the till where the girl scanned it and said, that's £110. I said the ticket says £60, So she said its easy to swap the tickets, price is £110. Thats when i got pissed off. I said there is a whole rail full of these at £60, I then took her and shown her. Still not convinced, she wouldnt give it me at £60. Another guy said there had been several problems about these all week. By now i was feckin fuming.Anyhow turned out the one i bought should have been £60. I said i aint gonna talk to the manger about this. I'm gonna write to the MD.They shit themselves, i got my way, they were in the wrong. Finished up with a free pair of trainers too.

thats different, they obviously fucked up and she went against what her manager said. im on about when people blow up on retail associates for things they arent entitled to, or for following their managers instructions...when customers are in the wrong and retail associates get abused when they just cant do anything about it.

that chick clearly was in the wrong, and at that point customers have every right to be upset.
