Seriously Imbalanced Reporting?

This week, on Twitter, Anthony Stokes has been promoting a band which has made an album of IRA songs. Indeed according to his tweets he was in the studio with them recording their tracks. Good way to spend your time off? Now,I would have thought that news of a full international and regular Celtic first team player being involved in making an Irish Republican band album would have been news in these days of heightened media scrutiny for all things sectarian, but apparently not.

It seems that a young boy allegedly being sectarian is more newsworthy than a significantly more high profile player promoting terrorists. Mr Stokes has now removed the offending tweet.stokestweet.jpg

A severe case of paranoia, no? Well it would be if we'd come away with that. When the Rangers fans up in Inverness were singing BJK after his wifes death and Rangers fans in Porto glorifying Tommy Burns death we didn't see much press coverage of it. Perhaps they felt dirty even mentioning it. The press has always been kind to Rangers for most of it's history. Mainly because they have primarily been know as the laptop loyal. In other words, mostly Rangers fans. I guess equal opportunities might have caught up with the teddy bears. But I doubt it

The press werent so quick on reporting all the gers fans laying flowers in tribute to tommy either on their return from manchester.

That was on the Scottish news actually. I remember watching it.

I think the Scottish press are generally as balanced as they can be with the exception of The Hun and the Daily Ranger. The Daily Ranger even recently had to apologise to Neil Lennon and Celtic after one of its reporters had an inflamatory report prior to the Ibrox game. Fan's are always going to have a fairly partizan approach. I can be the same at times.

imo its the same everywhere...fans of one side think the press is out to get them, and the other side thinks the same thing...when in reality, its more or less even.

we have the same thing here, Oregon fans slam The Statesman Journal (Salem newspaper) for being too Pro-Oregon State, and OSU fans do the same with The Oregonian (Portland newspaper) being biased towards Oregon...but when you actually read both there are usually about the same amount of coverage from each for both teams. (naturally the Ducks get more attention at the moment because we're an elite team in the national spotlight, and the Beavers are very poor this year).
