Safe standing plan approved by SPL

Hope it goes ahead, if successfull it could pave the way for a similar trial in England. Its about time we had a choice to stand!

see thats brilliant, thats what the Germans do and it works just fine for them.

i dont know why they targeted standing and singing over there, fucking Hillsborough was due to poor policing and idiot fans rushing the stadium without a ticket, not the people standing and watching the game normally.... imo they made the average football fan the victim because they dont want to take responsibility for their cock up.

i hope you do get standing, improve the atmosphere immensely. if they told us we couldnt stand at Timbers half the people wouldnt turn up, cause a lot of the fun is the occasion of it all, not just the match.

They should forget Hillsborough when taking this into consideration. Safe standing has nothing to do with Hillsborough, Policing and Liverpool fans with no tickets contributed to that, it just wouldn't happen again in today's age. You simply can't get into a game with no tickets, unless you know someone of course! Even just one stand being standing would make all the difference to a game, there would be singing, shouting, jumping, movement and great atmosphere which would spread to the rest of the stadium. I think the Riverside is too steep to have standing. Might have to just remove the seats and put separation bars on each row.

It might be a generation thing, but I've never understood how an atmosphere would be so much better if everyone was stood up. 1) It's not physically or mentally impossible to sing whilst sat down, and 2) If you're seated, then the poor kid behind you whose only crime is wanting to watch his heroes play can actually see.

When you stand up your more "awake" and your more up for singing and jumping around, having a right laugh and sing. Sitting down your ready to sleep really. Sitting there, clapping now and again and whinging!

Do you think a nightclub dance floor would be good if the dance floor was full of seats?

I doubt it, but then a football stadium isn't a nightclub.

its a football game. there are family areas at the stadiums, and right smack in the middle of the set of fans who want to stand and sing isnt it. if you dont want your kids view blocked, SIT in another part of the stadium and let the people who want to STAND, stand and sing. simple.

for the record, football is exponentially better standing than sitting. i dont know why anyone would want to sit at a match.

I'm in favour of having selected part of the ground for standing only. Make the section ticket only to avoid crushes and don't make the stand too steep.

A PR exercise by the SPL. Listening to the fans apparently. I liked the old terracing despite the terrible facilities. Safe standing areas look like sheep pens to me. I'd sooner just keep seating. And it won't add much atmosphere to most stadiums here. The problem we have is ticket prices are too high and the product is crap. Sheep pens won't improve that much. Will the Old firm reduce a ticket price with these seeing as we are standing? I can't see them wanting to. The cost of converting these areas will not go down too well with cash strapped clubs.
