Football is becoming a wusses game?

    Think again:

Gillingham winger Chris Whelpdale is hoping to be fit for Friday night's game with Dagenham & Redbridge - despite suffering from a split scrotum.

The 24-year-old needed five stitches after being caught in a challenge with David Hunt late on in the Gills' 2-1 Boxing Day win at Crawley.

"I'm hoping to be fit," Whelpdale told the club's website.

"I've just been out and bought a jockstrap, so I'll pad it all up and I should be OK to play."

He added: "I had a bit of a shock when I saw it but when it initially happened I thought it was just a normal whack in the area, but then three or four minutes later it was hurting.

"I did have a look and that was when I was a bit shocked."
Ouch. Also add the story that Scott Dann had his nuts smashed and will be out for a while, the theory is starting to look like bollocks!

Its not a wusses game, people get confused with wusses and tactical rolling about on the floor holding a leg or a body part. Thats just dirty tactics.

Respect. I haven't had that pleasure since I got a ball smashed in that region when I was in goal a couple of years ago. You forget how bad it hurts.

I knew this about 3 years a-go when Long Sleeved Skin-tight Shirts were starting to be trendy under Short Sleeved Shirts and when John Barnes made gloves "trendy"!! Dunno what ppl like Nat Lofthouse, Stanley Mathews etc would make of the game as it is now!

what player have worn has always changed thats more to do with fashion that the game, when the game was first played in the 19th century the gentlemen still wore top hate during a game. Then it didnt change much till the 80's with the testicularly snug short.

In an attacking sense the game has never been better in its history but the problem is that the authorities have made it so attacking friendly you cant tackle anyone anymore. In 10 years going to ground to tackle at all will get you sent off.

I used to wear them at footy training and for my games in the winter. In the spring/summer it was the short sleeves. They're pretty nifty if you want keep hydrated and show ya figure off ;)

Well yeah I appprove of Long Sleeved Skin-tights under Long Sleeved Shirts but not Long under Short Sleeved ones like with this year's Madrid Home one - that is just totaly insulting the Shirt!!

Sorry I have got to totaly disagree with you here! Look at the 50s/60s - the scores you got particulary at Xmas (i'd read about this in a Mag, forget which one) but the high scoring games were amazing results that i'd love to see again.
