yep, which is approximately 124567257343745838452371252372727523426 times better than the NFL, because they're playing for the opportunity to go pro, and arent a bunch of overpaid babies.

everyone on the field is between the ages of 18-23 or so. its supposed to be "amateur", but anymore these days college football is just a stepping stone to the NFL. but its way more exciting because there are hundreds of teams competing for that coveted National championship.

the game we won (the Rose Bowl) is nicknamed "the Granddaddy of them all", and is one of the oldest bowl games played. bowl games come after the regular season, they're one off matches between 2 teams (usually from different conferences, but not always) competing for the honor.

the biggest is the BCS National Championship game, then there are the 4 BCS Bowls which remain VERY prestigious... the Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta Bowls... then theres about 20 or so other smaller bowls which the minnows scrap it out over, though some of those smaller bowls like the Holiday Bowl and the Cotton Bowl are still pretty big games.

winning the Rose Bowl is the best a school from our conference (the Pacific 12 Conference) can get without playing in the National Championship game (which we did last year and lost), its a huge honor. and Oregon hasnt won it since 1917. we're one of the teams favored to compete for the Natty (National Championship) next season. we had a very very good season, finished 12-2 with the Rose Bowl baby!!

some sports are like that here too, Baseball and Football (Association) in particular. Basketball used to be that way too but they recently introduced a rule saying that players have to play at least one year of Uni basketball before they can go pro.

with American football that just doesnt happen. most guys just arent ready for the rigors and physicality of the league until they hit their early 20's, and even then it can take several years to establish yourself at the highest level. its very VERY rare that an American footballer doesnt play at least 3 years of Uni ball before going pro.

you only get 4 years of playing eligibility, or 5 if you redshirt your freshman year (means they can practice but not play, so they get an extra year of eligibility). for the top players, 3 years is about standard (they leave a year early, or graduate early), and they usually dont redshirt... but most will end up redshirting their freshman year because the jump from high school football to college is HUGE.

every once in a while a man-child will come along and be ready to mix it up with the big boys when he's 18. LeBron James being the most recent name that springs to mind...he was as good as he is now when he was 18, and truly did live up to the hype.

If they pay no attention to all the circus shite that goes with it then they will never have a problem. The problem a lot of them seem to have is that having played college ball dont think they have to listen to anyone. I tell you if you walked into a rugby dressing room with that attitude you would be getting your arse handed to you before you made it to the pitch.

ohhh trust me, thats not the case in American football either. if a rookie came into the locker room acting like he owned the place, the senior players would VERY quickly put him in his place.

Any game which has a team called the "packers" as top dogs needs to be thoroughly avoided.

Cheese Packers... Wisconsin is dairy country. they've dropped the "Cheese" part over the years, but its why the fans always wear those big cheese hats.

when was the last time 100,000 people attended the Intertoto final?

but i guess wee little England would need a stadium that could actually hold that many people first eh?
