Another near by country sounds better. yes:

Was over the moon, although the job's not yet done with a few tough fixtures still to be played.

Only a few years ago, Lithuania and The Faroes were considered tough opponents and now Scotland are topping a group which includes the two World Cup finalists. :

I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who beats France is awesome in my book. And especially now that it's Scotland and Italy at the top of the group.

Yes, as I mentioned for Scotland, I think ranked 60th a few years ago and when matches against Lithuania proved a struggle and to now beat France on two occasions who are ranked 4th and reached the World Cup Final is amazing.

My other point was simply that people should not get too carried away as the job is not yet done.

Scotland now have to play;

Ukraine with Scotland gaining home advantage.
Georgia, a strong home team and a hostile atmosphere should be expected.
Italy, the World Champions which speaks for itself.

My predictions are the following.

Scotland 2-1 Ukraine. (Scotland coming from behind and winning)
Georgia 0-1 Scotland. (Nervy Scotland performance)
Scotland 1-1 Italy. (A late equaliser from Scotland)

I'll try not to let my heart rule my head, but I believe in my predictions.

That would mean 7 points out of a possible 9.

Scotland's stats will then look like this.

Played: 12
Won: 9
Drawn: 1
Lost: 2
For: 21
Against: 9
Points: 28
Goal Difference: 12

If Scotland do not then qualify, they will be heartbroken as they would fully deserve a place in Euro 2008. This would surely go down as football's unluckiest moment and Scotland will have done themselves proud. You just have to hope that either France or Italy slip up to make sure as it would be a nerve racking final match against Italy. :

P.S. I must also add that I don't think a team has not ever gone through when being on 28 points, however I haven't done any research.

We were actually 88th when Smith took over. Our lowest ever position.

Lets hope things keep improving. We'll be world champions before we know it :animatedfear:

88th? Bloody hell, I never knew it was that low.

Let's just hope Scotland can make Euro 2008 and then maybe the team can test themselves at the big stage.

Scotland have finished their down now and let's all hope it will be positive happenings from now on.

Even if we don't make it this time. The fact that we have done much better recently will lift us up the rankings and allow us to get a much easier qualifying group in the future.
