Hardly a surprise, seeing as it is not yet a permanent appointment, in Terry's absence!

i believe he has been captain 5 times before and we have lost either four or five of those games (no wonder you think he's a good choice)

And were these games lost because Gerrard was captain,Or because the manager was shite, couldnt pick his best eleven, was tactically inept, and couldnt motivate his players?.

hes not a leader, i dont believe that hes a good captain. Terry or Rio are the best choise, they are always motivating others and they always work hard and shows how to fight, i dont think that Gerrard are always 100% motivated to play...

it's just captaincy for this match, Capello is going to select the captain for the start of the qualification matches.

Frankly Gerrard is not a good captain for England. For Liverpool he steps up and does something, but haven't seen him do that for England. My choice would be with Rio or Hargreaves.

Had to chose him really, he is one of teh few (if not only) person who is a regular club captain. It's only for a friendly so doesn't really matter.

Yeah you're right westboy. Its all about leadership and quite frankly there is no one else to put. Ferdinand?? What experience does he have being a captain?? Gerrard is the only choice IMO.

gerrard has one maybe one england game as captain- not really the right experience is it?

he also never looks capable of organising the team

to me gerrard appears like a throw-back to svens captains, none of them were natural born leaders either

Given that owen's not starting who else is there? I don't think he'd make a good long term captain, but if you look at the squad (given Owens not starting) who else is there?
