FOLLOWING the announcement that Rangers will welcome Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to Ibrox on Saturday July 17 to participate in a prestigious friendly to commemorate our 150th anniversary, the club is today pleased to unveil a number of additional matches and activities that will prepare the champions for UEFA Champions League qualifiers and competitive domestic action.

Steven Gerrard’s side returned to training today where they will put in the hard yards before opening up their pre-season campaign at Partick Thistle at Firhill on Monday, July 5 at 7pm.

Rangers are also pleased to announce an away fixture against League Two Tranmere Rovers which will take place at 12:30pm on July 10. Managed by former Dundee United manager Mickey Mellon, the Merseyside club will provide a good test for the Light Blues.

Arsenal are next up on July 17 at 2pm, before Gers head back across the border on July 21 to Bloomfield Road to face newly-promoted Championship side Blackpool at 7pm.

We have agreed further plans for the final weekend of pre-season. Information will follow later this week.

Supporters, as always, are the heart of Rangers Football Club and welcoming our fans back safely to watch the team play is our top priority. We are optimistic of being able to invite supporters back to Ibrox this summer and are in close dialogue with the relevant authorities to discuss ways in which fans can safely return to Ibrox and any away fixtures.

We hope to be able to publish further information in the near future but until that time, we strongly advise supporters not to make any travel plans or commitments related to our summer fixtures.

Subject to the return of fans, we are also pleased to announce a first-team open training session at Ibrox on July 23 that will be exclusive to 2021/22 season MyGers Members. An open training session has been one of our most-requested membership experiences and subject to COVID-19 regulations, we are thrilled to offer this experience which will be perfect for the whole family to experience how Steven Gerrard prepares the champions in training sessions.

The only place to see exclusive, behind the scenes access to our pre-season training and premier content is RangersTV. You can buy a subscription HERE.

Rangers to play Real Madrid in glamour friendly. Looking forward to this one

RANGERS Football Club’s 150 years has seen countless memories created, not only with regular, record-breaking success at home, but also in continental competition, where the club have enjoyed so many phenomenal nights.

It has seen the club become a name which resonates right around the continent with football supporters of all generations, and this coming year, of course, will see the Light Blues become the first major European club to reach that milestone of 150 years.

It seems rather fitting, therefore, that the club can today confirm another of Europe’s major clubs as the opposition for the final pre-season fixture for Steven Gerrard’s side.

13-time Champions of Europe Real Madrid, led by Carlo Ancelotti, will visit Ibrox on Sunday, July 25, as the final test ahead of competitive action beginning six days later on Saturday, July 31.

Only once before have Rangers welcomed Los Blancos to Govan - that meeting coming in season 1963/64 in the first round of the European Cup.

Then, both sides would have had genuine ambitions of going all the way in the tournament, and over 80,000 packed Ibrox to see a side well-renowned in the city following their 7-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the final of the competition at Hampden three years earlier.

A 1-0 loss with the great Ferenc Puskas netting the winner with just four minutes left was followed by a 6-0 loss at the Bernabeu – that man Puskas netting a hat-trick on that night with Real going on to reach the final.

This meeting is sure to be a superb occasion, and a fantastic test for Steven Gerrard’s side ahead of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers as two of European football’s most famous names go head to head.

Ticketing information will be communicated in due course, and RangersTV will be the only place broadcasting the match.

Our Football Business Award-nominated coverage will continue, with all five of Gers’ remaining pre-season matches shown live.

Wasn't at that game but I remember it taking place well. It was that one and the late great Ferenc Puskas who changed my outlook to a degree on football. I was/am naturally rightfooted so I was out on the street with my ball kicking only with my left foot for hours.....this went on for god know how long until I felt proficient using my left peg. I then pestered my parents to buy me an all white long sleeved white top a la Real Madrid. Puskas has always been a hero of mine.
