Theft by finding is what it is called. Although I can understand that it seems a joke that it ended up in court the fact that it WAS reported to the Police, they have a duty to investigate and report depending on the evidence they gather. Thus it was forwarded for consideration of prosecution. Personally I'd rather have seen her return the cash so that it could possibly be returned to its rightful owner (if claimed) as it may have been a needy pensioner that dropped it.

I would have picked it up myself and kept it. Finders keepers.

But over a tenner, thats an absolute waste of time and money!

As long as you're not caught.

Yup as long as i'm not caught. I think this would be a 1 off case though, the police should have just made her return the money to the store rather than waste tax payers money putting it through the courts. Oh well.
