Sky pay £600m for EFL rights; clubs can stream

Recommended Posts

Quote

Television coverage of the English Football League is set for a radical overhaul as part of a new five-year deal signed with Sky Sports.

Announcing the contract on Tuesday, the EFL said it would receive £600million from the broadcaster as part of the new terms which will see the Championship, Leagues One and Two, the Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy continue to be shown live.

A stand-out point of the new deal, which kicks in from 2019, is that clubs from the Championship, League One and League Two will be able to live stream games on their respective websites outside of the blocked hours of 2.45pm and 5.15pm on a Saturday afternoon.

This is good news as people can't go to every game so they can watch it in the comfort of their own home. This is LONG overdue and it doesn't even start until 2019. I don't go to games anymore as I don't have the spare money to go there, over £30 a match for an adult is too much to do week in week out, even as a one off as you don't know what you're going to get, you could pay the £60+ for two people and the game be 0-0 and boring as fuck!

Least if you have the option to buy it for £5 a game, you can get your mates round or just watch it yourself. Its a win win situation for the EFL, the clubs, and Sky. People would rather pay a small fee to get a HD quality stable stream! :)
