Championship Promotion & Playoff Race

Recommended Posts

Well 4 games are left, probably should have started this thread a little earlier, oh well, i've been busy at work!! So this is the table as of today:

  1. Norwich City (Played 41 - 85 Points)
  2. Leeds United (Played 42 - 80 Points)
  3. Sheffield United (Played 42 - 79 Points)
  4. West Brom (Played 42 - 73 Points)
  5. Aston Villa (Played 42 - 69 Points)
  6. Bristol City (Played 41 - 65 Points)
  7. Middlesbrough (Played 42 - 64 Points)
  8. Derby County (Played 41 - 63 Points)
  9. Hull City (Played 42 - 60 Points)
  10. Sheff Wed (Played 42 - 60 Points)
  11. Forrest (Played 42 - 57 Points)
  12. Preston (Played 42 - 57 Points)
  13. Swansea City (Played 41 -56 Points)
  14. Brentford (Played 42 - 54 Points)

I've listed all the teams mathematically still could get into the play-offs.

The Automatic promotion places are between, Norwich, Leeds and Sheffield United)

The Play-Offs positions are between: Leeds, Sheff United, West Brom, Villa, Bristol City, Boro and Derby

If Leeds go up or Sheffield go up, the other are guaranteed the play-offs along with west Brom so its only the final 2 play off positions that teams are playing for.

Any Thoughts?

Aston Villa (Played 42 - 69 Points)
Bolton (A)
Millwall (H)
Leeds United (A)
Norwich City (H)

Bristol City (Played 41 - 65 Points)
Reading (H)
Sheff Wed (A)
Derby (H)
Millwall (A)
Hull (A)

Middlesbrough (Played 42 - 64 Points)

I overheard two Aston Villa fans this morning saying that they think 4th in the Premier League next season is very realistic?

To be honest I think that is a bit pie in the sky.

Don't Villa have to beat Derby to get promotion?

I get it's exciting,  I get it's a money spinner......

But the two clubs finishing 5th and 6th over a season in a play off over 3rd and 4th, just doesn't do it for me......

Derby ain't good enough for the Championship!

They clearly are if they have got through to the play off final. The championship is unpredictable. That's what makes it so good. I personally think it's better than the Premier League as it's kind of an even playing field.

Time will tell, if indeed they beat Villa....

I can just think of bigger boot to the balls than Leeds had this season....... that said,  everyone knows the rules in August.

It has been widely reported that Villa could be in trouble with the EFL over FFP.

If they are promoted to the PL how would any penalty be handed down? Confused as the EFL and PL are different entities?

If Leeds had played better and got into 2nd position then they wouldn't need to go through the Play-Off route. Its all to play for in the play offs. Does not matter what position your finish, everyone has an equal chance at winning!

Of course they do, that's my point.

It's piss poor.

I have to agree. Fifth and sixth place teams play the final. Farcical.

Everyteam who starts the league knows this though. Don't see what the problem is it how it's piss poor.

I said that above, they know in August.......

I think its piss poor that a team finishing 6th, can progress to The Prem.

I also think it's piss poor that the team finishing second from bottom in Scotland gets a play off to stay up.

These are my opinions right or wrong. 😁
