Anyone remember getting tucked into bed by your Nana and not being able to move?

She probably didn't want you getting out of bed and going down to raid the fridge in the night. :court1:

Me and my missus do, shes from wales and i'm from the boro so its not a local thing.

When i'd stay at my nanas she'd took the bed sheets in proper tight.

There were so many sheets too, not like today when we just have one duvet, there where 4-5 different sheets.

Don't you find it strange when adults use terms like "my nan" or "my nana"?

:chuckling-gesture-smiley-emoticon:

not really.....I use the term 'granny' as that is what I called her when I was a wee boy. I presume others would do the same but with their word of choice ?

I don't see what is pathetic about it. It's simply the word used by the individual that presumably they were taught to use when young & they still do.

of course it is but personally I think it is demeaning to anyone who uses that particular description of (especially) a relative.

I was brought up in Greenock in the West of Scotland and while I may have used stupid words as a child I outgrew the habit.
So you are only half right. :t2706:

Exactly! It's a local dialect thing, nan-nanny-nana-gran-granny-grandma-etc,etc. In Brum it was always nan.

It is not my intention to demean anyone.
I just find it strange that adults continue to use what are essentially names from their childhood.
