I know it is ridiculous.

I don't bother sticking it on Box Office at home for £20 any more. I just walk up local and have 6 pints for £18. No brainer!

Never used Box office and never will. Once....just once in the early 2000's I paid a a one off fee (can't nind how much) for an away Rangers European game.

But showing the games in your pub will increase footfall so you should make the money back in sales. If you don't then don't buy it.

Three new bars in my local town centre have opened in the last year( a big relief after endless closures), but I notice none of them have signed up to Sky or BT Sport. Apart from wanting to cater more to women and couples wanting a quiet drink, apparently the cost of having the two sports broadcasters is running at 15-20k a year and some pubs are talking about cancelling their subscriptions. I did read the amount of pubs with PPV sports channels has fallen from 53% to 38% in the last ten years and since most football fans have Sky and BT at home, or use internet services, could the era of big televisions showing football in pubs be coming to an end. I suppose those pubs that are near football grounds and cater to a male weekend market will probably keep their sports subscriptions, but others seem to be moving on.

I think most pubs will get rid of the TV subscriptions, they are just too expensive, however much they cost.

I don't really go to pubs to watch football. I go to just get pissed and talk utter shite.

The cost varies from pub to pub apparently. The landlord of my local say's it is based on the rateable value of the pub.

Yes, the rateable value of the pub also factors in how many punters they are expected to get.

So, I guess if that equation isn't right then some Landlords could suffer hugely if they aren't getting the quotas buying booze. Then there is food sales to factor in too.

Sky must set it so they get some good money and the pub gets some good money.

Maybe all the Pubs who are moaning about it, don't get a lot of drinkers in the first place?
