Some fabulous snooker being played yet the headlines are all about O'Sullivan's "withdrawal from" or "non-entry to" the masters.
Does anyone care about that?

Fantastic play by Stephen Maguire to whitewash Mark Allen.

I do wish the commentators would realise that Stephen and Steven are pronounced differently.

in what way ? Don't know about anyone else but over here they are both pronounced Steven. I have never heard differently.

PH in English is pronounced as an F, so Stephen is pronounced Stefen.
However in many European languages V is pronounced as an F.
That's probably where the confusion started.

Just for info, another one is that Davis and Davies are also pronounced differently.

I know that

To you perhaps but not for the majority in the UK in my experience. But then again it is down to the individual.

I've heard both pronunciations but it depends on how said pronunciation is introduced to the individual & spoken thereafter.

Just an afterthought: what does a Brummie know about pronunciation?

As much as any other person I'd imagine.

Just for the record Hairy.....just because you have a certain way of pronouncing certain words does not mean that a person who pronounces said words differently is wrong!

mucho.......but on both areas of destination I never went out of my way to listen out for the pronunciation of either Steven, Stephen or Davis, Davies. I suspect you didn't either.

You didn't say these exact words but you certainly give that impression mate....and when Mr Mags said Steve and Stephen are pronounced the same you replied 'No'. Anyway, this is going away from the thread about Snooker.

I do wish the commentators would realise that Stephen and Steven are pronounced differently.

Jammy cunt Bingham won the masters yesterday, £250.000 into the cheats pocket.

Ali Carter who was a wild card for O'Sullivan was the losing finalist pocketing £100.000, deserved better.
